Creating custom cover art for your Spotify playlist is a fun way to show off your personality and make your listening experience even more enjoyable. Spotify recently introduced a new feature that lets you design your own playlist covers right in the app, giving you the chance to add a personal touch to your favorite collections.
Whether you’re a free user or a premium subscriber, you can access this feature, although it’s still rolling out in beta. This means you can easily customize your playlists to reflect your unique style and make them more inviting to share with friends. In this article, we’ll walk you through how to make eye-catching custom cover art for your Spotify playlists.
Let’s get started!
How to Make Custom Cover Art for Your Spotify Playlist?
This process is the same whether you’re using Android or iOS. First, find the playlist you want to change the cover art for and open it in the app. Tap the three dots above the track list then select Create cover art from the menu.
You’ll have two options: Create cover art (the new feature) and Change cover image (the previous option). If you choose Change cover image, you can select a photo from your gallery or take a new one. The app will crop your picture to fit.
Let’s focus on Create cover art, which opens the art editor. You’ll see a basic placeholder along with 4 tabs at the bottom of the screen to help you create your masterpiece.
- Text: You can add text on top of the image. The playlist name will appear by default, but feel free to add any text you like in multiple blocks. Each block can have its own font size and style. There are various effects to experiment with, such as spherical text.
- Image: This option allows you to upload a picture from your gallery or take a new one. You can crop it into different shapes, resize, rotate and reposition it. There are also effects available, including a fish-eye effect.
- Background: Change the backdrop for your text and images here. The default is a simple colored gradient, but you can adjust it or switch to a solid color. If you need inspiration, just hit the shuffle button.
- Stickers: This tab offers a selection of fun icons and graphics to add flair to your design. While the sticker selection isn’t vast, Spotify may expand it as they develop this feature further.
Once you’re satisfied with your design, tap Save and then confirm by tapping Save again to apply your artwork. Currently, there’s no way to revert to the original playlist cover (which is based on the album art of your chosen tracks) but you can always create something new.
Note: You can’t save drafts of your cover art as you work. You must either apply the design or start over. Additionally, you can’t store multiple art options for a single playlist. So if you want to keep the old cover, make sure to take a screenshot before applying a new one.
Who Is Behind Spotify’s New Playlist Cover Art?
As part of its recent launch, Spotify has teamed up with music artists, visual creators, and the talented individuals behind some of the world’s most iconic album art. This collaboration aims to empower listeners to tap into a new level of creativity and individuality. Each participant has used the new feature to create unique cover art for their playlists on the platform.
Featured music artists include Clairo, Jamie xx, and Arlo Parks. On the visual creation side, Spotify has enlisted talents like Pablo Rochat, Jesse Nyberg, Vita Kari, and Elliot Ulm. The album artwork experts in this initiative include creative director Imogene Strauss; Adrian Hernandez, known as Ugly Primo and the designer of “Un Verano Sin Ti” by Bad Bunny; and Cey Adams, who has designed album covers and logos for hip-hop legends such as The Notorious B.I.G., Beastie Boys, and JAY-Z.
