Teens only have the “Standard” and “Less” options under the sensitive content control. The “Less” state automatically in under-16-year-old new users on Instagram. Teenagers already using Instagram will receive a prompt urging them to choose the “Less” experience. Young people will have a harder time finding potentially sensitive content or accounts in Search, Explore, Hashtag Pages, Reels, Feed Recommendations, and Suggested Accounts as a result.

Additionally, they are trialing a fresh strategy for persuading teenagers to update their privacy and safety settings. Teenagers will see prompts requesting that they review their settings, which include those governing who can reshare their content, who can message and contact them, what content they can view, and how to control their time spent on Instagram.

Some ways they attempt to safeguard teenagers on Instagram are through these updates.

Controls to help people customize their experience on Instagram are constantly being developed. Instagram released Sensitive Content Control last summer so users could decide how much or how little sensitive content they wanted to see in Explore from accounts they didn’t follow. They’re announcing changes to this control today.

Instagram has launched a new, full-screen home feed that includes more suggested Reels. Its design is to make it easier for users to discover and watch Reels, the short-form video format that has become increasingly popular on the platform. The new home feed will be rolling out to all users in the coming weeks.

The full-screen home feed will replace the current grid layout. The new layout puts Reels front and center, with a suggested Reel appearing at the top of the feed when users open the app. Users can also swipe left or right to browse through other suggested Reels.

Instagram has been working to boost the visibility of Reels in recent months. In September, the company launched a dedicated space for Reels on Explore, and earlier this month, it began testing a feature that would allow users to watch Reels without leaving their feed. The new home feed is another step in Instagram’s efforts to make Reels more discoverable and easy to watch.

Instagram Update: Instagram has just announced the return of the much-requested chronological feed and a shiny new feed experience called Favorites.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, explained why the company is making the move today:

“We want you to be able to shape Instagram into the best possible experience, and giving you ways to quickly see what you’re most interested in is an important step in that direction.”
