2023 Instagram Stories Ads Success: Insider’s Guide (2/2)

Is Instagram Rolling Out a For You Page?

In our previous article, we discussed the immense marketing potential of Instagram Stories, with its 500M+ daily users and significant presence of businesses.  Now, in this second part, we dive deeper into Instagram Stories ads in 2023, providing practical insights on running successful campaigns for your business.

Whether you’re an experienced marketer or a business owner eager to tap into Instagram Stories’ potential, this article is your comprehensive guide to unleashing the power of Instagram Stories ads in the 2023 year. Let’s explore how this platform can propel your business forward.

5. Make good use of your call-to-action

In the end, your Instagram Stories ad’s effectiveness hinges on including a clear call-to-action (CTA) that prompts viewers to take action. The language you use, such as “Learn More,” “Shop Now,” or “Swipe Up,” depends on your specific goal. For instance, if you aim to raise brand awareness, “Learn More” communicates your desire to educate viewers about your offerings, whereas “Shop Now” conveys a direct invitation to make a purchase.

For further inspiration on crafting effective CTAs, refer to the mentioned examples above.

6. Include text to emphasize the main message

Adding text to your Instagram Stories ad is not only a best practice for accessibility but also enhances the overall impact of your message. It assists viewers who are hard of hearing in understanding your ad’s content. Moreover, text can be instrumental in emphasizing your key points effectively. For example, Aveeno’s inclusion of the text “Get Healthy Looking Skin Every Day” helped highlight their main selling point, ultimately persuading me to make a purchase.

7. Experiment with mobile shots

According to Facebook’s findings, “Mobile shots outperform studio shots for ad recall and intent, while studio shots tend to drive higher brand awareness.” This highlights the importance of considering mobile-shot and edited videos over elaborate studio setups.

Given that the majority of Instagram users consume content on their smartphones, it makes sense to create content using the same device. It’s worth experimenting with this approach and conducting A/B tests specific to your brand to determine its effectiveness firsthand.

Instagram Story Ad Examples

I’ve gathered a few impressive examples from my own Instagram Story feed below. While the majority of these examples are larger brand names, there are many small-to-medium-sized businesses that use Instagram.

1. Aveeno

Aveeno’s Instagram ads have a clean and simple design, using neutral colors with a signature green to highlight their daily moisturizer. The ad includes a hand pointing to a shopping cart with a “Shop Now” swipe-up link. It focuses on the product, avoiding distractions, making it effective for users looking to replenish their moisturizer.

2. Miller Lite

This ad felt personalized for me, a 27-year-old woman in Boston. It cleverly mentions the Celtics, grabbing my attention. It then shows their Lite drink, highlighting its great taste, low calories (96), and carbs (3.2g). This example successfully captures my interest by focusing on what I care about: low-calorie beer alternatives and the Celtics.

3. Trunk Club

This captivating and dynamic ad swiftly showcases a variety of outfit options on the screen, accompanied by the text, “Keep what you love, send the rest back.” By featuring multiple styles, including dresses, cardigans, dress pants, and heels, the ad successfully appeals to a broader audience than it would with just a single style. With its clean white background and clear black text, the ad maintains a simple yet eye-catching aesthetic that is hard to overlook. Its simplicity and clarity make it effortlessly engaging and easily noticeable.

4. Febreze

Who can resist a charming puppy? Febreze’s clever ad features an adorable puppy on a couch with the text, “Refresh wherever they roam.” The Febreze product is displayed below. Unlike other ads with subdued colors, Febreze embraces vibrant light blues, greens, and purples. This bold color scheme adds a playful and fun vibe to the user’s feed, making the ad even more appealing.

5. Tractor Beverage Co.

Tractor Beverage Co.’s Instagram video stands out with its unique call to action. Instead of “Shop Now,” the ad boldly shows “Now Available at Chipotle” with a “Learn More” swipe-up. As a lesser-known brand, Tractor Beverage Co. cleverly builds brand awareness. By highlighting their availability at Chipotle, they aim to spark curiosity and encourage viewers to try their drink during their next visit.
