Before August 2021, TikTok shopping was informal. Creators mentioned products in their videos, and viewers bought them from online stores or local shops. Now, TikTok has partnered with Shopify for TikTok Shopping. This new feature brings shopping directly into the app, making it easier for users to discover and buy products. You can now shop on TikTok without exiting the app. With TikTok Shopping, you can showcase and sell products seamlessly within the app. Let’s start setting up your TikTok Shop for product sales together.

What is a TikTok shop?

A TikTok Shop is a shopping feature available right on the TikTok app. It allows sellers, brands, and creators to show and sell products directly on TikTok.

They can sell products through videos in the feed, live streams, and the product showcase section.

Who can use TikTok Shop?

You can use TikTok Shop if you fall into one of these four groups:

  1. Sellers
  2. Partners
  3. Affiliates
  4. Creators

If you’re a Seller, you must be in the UK, Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, or Indonesia. You need to verify this with a phone number from that area, a business registration certificate, and an ID.

As a Partner, you need a registered business in countries like China, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, the UK, or Vietnam.

As an Affiliate, you must be registered as a TikTok seller from the UK, Chinese mainland, Hong Kong SAR Seller (cross-border only), Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, or Singapore.

For Creators, your account must be in good standing, and you must:

  • Have 1,000+ followers
  • Have 50+ video views in the last 28 days
  • Be 18 years old
  • Have posted a video on TikTok in the past 28 days

If you meet these requirements, you can apply through the TikTok Shop Creator Application.

Keeping your TikTok account in good standing is key for selling on TikTok Shop. It boils down to playing by the rules and making content that resonates. Yet, reaching this point can be tricky. It’s common to find you might be all in, making great videos, but still not seeing your follower numbers or sales dreams take off. It’s a tough spot, feeling like your hard work isn’t paying off.

Quick tip: Aim for quality and stay consistent. Hit the right notes with your audience, and don’t be afraid to try new things or jump on trends. Engaging with your followers and teaming up with other creators can help boost your game.

Remember, your follower and view counts matter. They’re like a seal of approval for your account. Looking for ways to get more eyes on your content can turn things around.

How to create a TikTok shop?

Setting Up Your TikTok Shop

If you want to start your TikTok shop, you’re likely a Seller. Sellers can go to the TikTok Seller Center to register.

Upload your required documents, add your products, and connect your bank account! Now, you’re officially a TikTok seller.

Afterward, you can keep adding new products to your shop in the Seller Center. You’ll manage your shop, inventory, orders, promotions, creator partnerships, and customer service all from there.

What is TikTok live shopping?

TikTok live shopping is when sellers or creators do a live stream to show and sell products.

Viewers can watch, add items to their TikTok shopping cart, and buy without leaving the app.

Tips for improving sales with your TikTok shop

Selling on TikTok is similar to other social platforms like Instagram. First, learn how to sell on TikTok effectively. Then, use these tips to boost your sales:

1. Make your product catalog TikTok-friendly

Your TikTok store is where customers shop. Keep it tidy and appealing. Use high-quality images that match your brand’s style. Keep product titles short (under 34 characters) and include essential details in the description. Remember, links in descriptions aren’t clickable.

2. Share your TikTok shop with your audience

Once you have your TikTok Shop ready, inform your followers. Create TikTok videos demonstrating where to find your shop and how to purchase your items.

3. Advertise your products

After setting up your shop and letting people know about it, start promoting your products. Talk about them in your videos, showcase them during live streams, and update your bio with new product highlights.

To grab attention, be creative with your promotions. Avoid boring ads or long product descriptions. Instead, mention your offerings with a touch of humor. Take inspiration from Glossier’s humorous infomercials for an engaging approach.

4. Collaborate with influencers

TikTok isn’t just another social platform—it’s a big deal in culture.

If you’re not familiar with its trends and jokes, it’s smart to let someone who knows TikTok well take the lead. This is especially true when you’re promoting a product and want it to do well.

Now, here’s where the magic happens. Teaming up with the right influencer can change the game. Find TikTok creators who genuinely like your product. Allowing them to be themselves is how many brands reach new audiences and sell products.
